Sandblasting is an effective method of purification on concrete surfaces. There are a number of reasons one would want to sandblast including the removal of an old concrete surface in order to make way for a better adhesive. It can be used to create a new texture into existing concrete, removing the surface of an existing concrete surface’s top layer so that a new one with better adhesive properties can be laid, or it can even be used to engrave designs into a surface. Last but by no means least, sandblasting is used to remove dirt and debris from concrete.

Before performing sandblasting, you should ensure you have the following materials:-

- Goggles
- Face mask
- Gloves
- Protective clothing
- Sandblaster
- Abrasive
- Tarp
- Tape

Steps to sandblasting

1. In order to prevent damage to surrounding objects and surfaces cover them with tarp and secure this down with tape

2. Ensure protective goggles, gloves, clothing and a breathing mask to reduce the risk of internal and external injury

3. Prepare the sandblaster - a competent firm will know how to do this and what it required

4. Place the nozzle about 8 inches from the surface you wish to sand blast

5. Finally, begin the process. Whilst sandblasting, ensure that you continue to move the nozzle from side to side. Keeping the sandblaster in one place can result in too much pressure to one area

6. Once you have finished sandblasting, ensure that dust is properly disposed of
